The philosophy of my practice has been built upon two anecdotes that created significant shifts in my perspective. I share them here with the hope that they'll connect with you too. Growth, understanding and joy are not only possible, but are completely within your reach. Let's discover that together.

'Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own life, or whether that station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show.'  - Charles Dickens , 'David Copperfield'

I remember a therapist mentioning that reference to me.  It was my last session with her and the experience hadn’t been going especially well. I still remember becoming excited and inspired by the quote.  I bought  the book the next day and my journey began then and there.

Just like Copperfield, I wanted to be the hero of my own life.  I believe we all do.  We want to feel confident, powerful and secure.  We yearn to be who we know we are in the depths of our souls.

Years ago, when my sister would come to me to talk about something that was bothering her, I'd say  'THAT'S THE GOLD!' She would look at me like, 'Really?!' And I would say: 'YES!'  I knew that if she could view her situation as an invitation, an opening to learn about why she was feeling what she was, she might begin to see the wisdom of her experience.  She would shift from 'Why is this happening to me?' to 'Why is this happening to me?'

And that's the gold.  Welcoming what is and knowing whatever it is has something to teach us.
